OUR STORY
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, throughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming. . .

WOW WHAT A RIDE !

Not long ago a friend emailed those words to us. After reading it several times we realized that it pretty much summed up our life and certainly our decision to become alpaca owners and breeders. After spending 35 years in the manufacturing sector of the steel industry it was time for a new adventure. Retirement came in the spring of 2002. At 56 years of age condo life was not an option. We had purchased a small horse farm in 1998. Our daughter rode and we did some riding too, but all horses represented was a lot of work and a better than average chance of getting hurt in the process. Friends of ours had an alpaca farm “down the road” and when we saw their animals we were hooked. It was easy to convert from horses to alpacas. We purchased our starter herd of 5 animals in March of 2003. They were moved to their new home in April and our first cria was born, in our garage/maternity ward, on February 29th, 2004. So with her birth we are truly “leaping” into the future.

We have quickly learned that participation in the relatively young alpaca industry is limited only by your own individual imagination. While we wait for our herd to grow large enough to support fiber production and animal sales we have opened a guest house on our farm - The Inn at Four Points and an alpaca clothing and accessory store - AlpacApparel at Four Points.

When our grandchildren come to visit and they run to the fence shouting PACAS - PACAS we know we made the right choice. This is truly “Life in the slow lane.”
